So, You Want to Get A Life?
I have deluded many people into thinking I have a life. And not just any life, but a cool life. So, today, I’ve decided to share my secrets. Sure, I could teach you how to fake it, but it’s actually a whole lot easier to actually just get a life. Here is how you do it:
1. Think of all the things you’d like to do.
2. Say to yourself, “Hmmm … what if I actually did those things?”
3. Do those things.
See how simple it is? When I was 18, I wanted to skydive. So I called up the local parachuting club and signed up. When I was 24, I read an article in the Sunday paper about a canoe trip in the Peruvian Amazon. So, I called and signed up. When I was 30, I wanted to start a community dance festival, so I called a lot of people, sent out invites, and – voila! – a dance festival was born.
As you can see, calling helps a lot in getting a life. So does saying “yes” at the proper moment. For instance, when I was asked if I wanted to be given a free plane ticket (roundtrip!), health insurance, room and board, and stipend to work on a tropical island (where I could actually bring my dog without quarantine), I said yes. That was key.
Basically, getting a life means actually doing things. The irony being that I’m sitting here blogging now which is kind of in the gray, limbo-area of having a life. But that’s okay – tomorrow I’ll be out having a life again. Hope to see you there!
